Instructions
for Operating the
Water Balloon
Toss Game
1.
Setup.
a)
Lay two long ropes parallel to each
other, about 6 feet apart, in a large, open
area. Tie weights to each end to help hold the
ropes in place. (One may be pegged down – the
other will be moved during the game.) Measure
off 3’ increments from each end of one of the
ropes and mark them with talcum powder.
b)
Guesstimate how many people will
play. Fill more than twice that many balloons
with water and store them away from the grabby
hands of children (and retarded adults). Do
not allow anyone to take a balloon until the
game starts.
c)
Have one of the other Games Gang
Operators close their game and help you operate
the water balloon toss. You may need their help
to fill and protect the balloons.
2.
Announcing the game.
a)
Begin announcing the water balloon toss ½
hour before it occurs to help build up
enthusiasm and participation. Announcement
should be “You have ½ hour to choose your
partner for the water-balloon toss game, which
will be held (define location) at (time).”
Announce it again 15 minutes before, then 5
minutes before, then at the time.
3.
Read The Rules.
a)
“Before you throw a water-balloon at this
announcer, you must first pay a $900 deposit to
pay for damaging the wireless microphone. If
anyone does get it wet who has not yet paid a
deposit for it, the company will be billed for
the damages. We assume that they will then
re-collect it from you or your parents.” (“The
helper, however, is fair game, should you choose
to waste your balloon.”)
b)
“Only teams of two may play. If you do
not have a partner yet, please move to this area
(point) and raise your hand.”
i)
(Help the un-matched people pair up.)
c)
“Take your partner by the hand and come
get two water balloons per team – one water
balloon for each of you. Then line up facing
each other behind the two ropes.”
i)
(Demonstrate by each of you standing
behind the ropes, facing each other.)
d)
“Keep your balloon in your hands the
entire time, except when throwing it. Putting
your balloon down in order to catch the other
balloon will disqualify your team.”
e)
“Do not throw until you are instructed
to, then both team members should throw at the
same time.”
f)
“After each throw, one side will be moved
back with the rope. Stay aware so that you can
move back with the rope. Throwing from in front
of the rope will disqualify your team.”
g)
“You are out of the game when you are out
of balloons. Please pick up the balloon
fragments and put them in a trash can so that
they do not harm wildlife.”
h)
“Have fun!”
4.
The throws.
a)
Stand between the ropes, off one end.
Your helper will stand in the same place at the
opposite end.
b)
When everyone seems ready, announce
“Ready, set, throw”. Console those who are out
already, commend those who are still in.
5.
The Move.
a)
Pick up each end of one rope and move the
line of people back one 3 foot increment. Be
certain that both ends are equal distance from
the opposite rope.
b)
Repeat “the throws” above, then move
again.
6.
The Game.
a)
Continue with throws and moves until all
balloons are broken. The players in the last
throw are the winners. If all players are all
disqualified except one team, they are the
winners even though they still have a balloon.
If they wish, play can continue until their
balloon breaks to determine just how well they
can do. |
