Water
Relay
with Spoons
Instructions
for operating the
Water Relay
With Spoons Game
1.
Setup. (Note: this setup can be
doubled by adding two more tables.)
a)
Set up two tables parallel with one
another approximately 25 feet apart. Designate
one the “starting point” and the other the
“destination”.
b)
Place two bowls full of water, one at
each end of the “Starting point” table. Place a
tablespoon by each bowl.
c)
Place two identical empty glasses, one at
each end of the “Destination” table.
2.
Announcing the game.
a)
Begin announcing the Water Relay Race
game ½ hour before it occurs to help build up
enthusiasm and participation. Announcement
should be “You have ½ hour before the Water
Relay Race game, which will be held (define
location) at (time).” Announce it again 15
minutes before, then 5 minutes before, then at
the time.
3.
Read The Rules.
a)
“There will be two teams chosen in a few
minutes. Players may be any age.”
b)
“The announcer will choose the team
leaders. The team leaders will then be given an
opportunity to choose the next player. The next
player will then be given an opportunity to
choose the next player, and so on. IN ORDER TO
HAVE EQUAL NUMBERS OF TEAM MEMBERS YOU MUST EACH
WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE TOLD TO CHOOSE THE NEXT TEAM
MEMBER. If it gets too crazy we will start all
over again.
c)
The Water Relay Race objective is to fill
your glass with water from the bowl which is
carried to it in the spoon, and ONLY WATER WHICH
IS CARRIED IN THE SPOON.
d)
Anyone who puts water in the glass in any
other way will either cause their team's cup to
be emptied, or it may disqualify their team.
e)
Do not begin carrying until the announcer
has said “Ready, set, GO”.
f)
The first person carries one spoon full
of water, pus it in the glass, then returns and
gives the spoon to the next person in line, who
will do the same.
g)
The first team to overflow the glass
without cheating will win
h)
Have fun!
4.
The Team Selection
a)
Choose any two people from the
participants and designate them team leaders.
Set them apart from the others, and from
themselves. Give them plenty of space so that
you can observe for any cheating and/or chaos
during the selection.
b)
Tell them each to “GO” and pick
one team member.
c)
Tell them that they can collaborate, if
they want to, but it is the responsibility of
the last person chosen to select the next
person.
d)
Tell them to each to “GO” and pick
one team member.
e)
When they have selected their team member
they will take the next place in line, behind
the person who chose them.
f)
Continue this in an orderly fashion,
clearly announcing “GO” at each selection time
until all players have been chosen.
5.
The Race.
a)
When everyone seems ready, announce
“Ready, set, Go”.
b)
Watch for cheating. Remind them that any
team that is caught cheating will have their cup
emptied, and they start over. |
